In Gilded Chains

And so I lie;
Wrapped in gilded chains.
This’ll be how I die;
Wrapped in gilded chains.
They bind me to the floor.
They clip my wings from me.
They dig deep into my flesh,
and hear me plead for thee.
And so, I cry, and I beg,
Choking on my sorrow.
Knowing you’re the one
Who’ll help me see tomorrow.
Until you come to my aid,
I’ll stay bound to the floor.
For these gilded chains,
Aren’t my only tethers anymore.
For now, my body is a prison
And my mind is a lock.
My thoughts a steel trap,
And my eyes, hard as rock.
You’ll have to dive,
Into the briny deep within
To free me.
Save me from where I’ve been.
For gilded chains,
are still chains;
No matter how extravagant,
Still cause the same pain.
